How Jewelry Boxes are made.

Today, 90% of jewelry boxes on the market, whether in store or online, are manufactured overseas. The process involves several steps. A design team sketches a rough plan for the general shape, size, and functionality of the jewelry boxes. Samples of wood finishes and interior colors are chosen for the jewelry box and a design is created for the interior storage compartments. Different from original craftsmen who would create wood panels from a solid piece of wood, the average jewelry box today is constructed from a high density composite material referred to as MDF (a wood product that is made with fine wood fiber). Once the exterior is constructed veneers are applied to create the wood finish. 

The benefit of veneers is: while still real wood with real wood characteristics, they offer the appearance of a wood finish and are available in almost any color and wood grain imaginable. A jewelry box manufacturer in the past would have limitations on colors or availability depending on the grain and tone of the wood. Veneers enable a jewelry box manufacturer to create the look of any natural wood grain and color. Veneers also create beautiful high gloss finishes as well as natural satin finishes. This allows stores like ours to offer well constructed jewelry boxes as beautiful as the "real thing" at an economical price.  

Once the jewelry box is complete with veneer application or wood finishing the interior is then hand applied. Once the interior is secured the jewelry box will be inspected and carefully packaged for shipment and ultimately to the consumer.

Only a select few jewelry box manufacturers feature a tarnish preventative lining. This enables you to keep gold and silver jewelry safe from tarnish and reduces or eliminates the need to polish your jewelry. This is an important feature to consider when purchasing your jewelry box, as it increases the longevity of your jewelry and decreases maintenance.
